The History of Billy Lord Ministries
It was a great Christmas in the Lord household as Billy rushed to the living room and found a guitar under the tree.  Unfortunately, it was for his sister and he had to settle for the GI Joe Scuba set.  A few years later though, that guitar became the instrument that Billy began to learn.  He would play along with John Denver records (yes, that’s vinyl albums) and shortly after learning some guitar basics, he began writing his own songs.

When his family moved to Green Bay, Wisconsin, he would get very involved in their church youth group.  Billy began leading the music during their youth meetings.

His musical development continued when he went to Liberty University on a football scholarship.  Billy continued writing songs and would sing for Bible studies and chapel services.  As Billy’s time at Liberty University drew to a close, he felt strongly that God was calling him to use his musical gifts in a full-time ministry.

So in the spring of 1983, he launched Billy Lord Musical Ministries.  He did concerts in churches and sang a youth camps and retreats.  Billy’s ministry became very focused on students in the late 80’s and early 90’s.  He began to see a big need for worship leaders and resources for them.  He began to mentor worship leaders and developed the worship resource “The Contemporary Songleader”.  Hundreds of churches around the country used this resource weekly.

In 1989, Billy began singing with a band as well as doing solo dates.  The band was called…The Billy Lord Band (I know…really original).  He currently has a four piece band called NorthFace.  Every member of these bands has come from the various local church ministries where Billy has been involved.  His commitment to the local church continues today as he serves on staff at Eagle’s Landing First Baptist Church.  He is the musical director and co-worship leader with Mark Hall and 3 other members of Casting Crowns for the churches contemporary service.

Billy has had many opportunities to minister since those early years in high school back in the late 70’s.  He led music for over 15,000 people at the Georgia Right to Life rally on the steps of the state capitol. He has performed with other musicians such as Casting Crowns, Jars of Clay, and Mark Lowry as well as noted speakers Andy Stanley, Josh McDowell and David Nassar.  Thousands of students and adults have been influenced by the ministry of Billy Lord.
